Solberge Hall The Wedding
“Nick - what can I say? Wow!! We absolutely love the photos. Thank you so so much.”
This is a great way to start reading any email.
Helen & James’ wedding was my first official wedding after ‘lockdown 1.0’ and it was great to get back into what I love doing. The original date was supposed to be May 2020 but COVID-19 had other plans.
Fast forward to August 16th, Helen got in touch to say that they had a date and it was in 2 weeks. I was so pleased to say that I was available. The whole wedding had to be changed, even the venue, but it didn't matter as all they wanted to do was marry the one they love. So, August 30th would be that special day.
The whole day was being covered and it started at her mum's beautiful home in Acklam, Middlesborough for her bridal preparations. This is where I found out about their love of music, and that they love to dance too! It was such a great place to be and so much fun.
They married at a church nearby, The Holy Name of Mary, in Middlesbrough. I wasn't able to take photos due to restrictions during the ceremony, only just the very start as Helen was walking down the aisle with her dad, any others would be taken from outside looking in.
We then travelled to Northallerton in North Yorkshire to the beautiful venue of Solberge Hall. With reception drinks on arrival as you would expect, and confetti canons on the stand by we got straight into the fun part of the day.
We all had a blast with the group photos, and with time going fast it was now time to go for a walk around the grounds giving Helen & James a chance to take everything in, and have a bit of ‘the’ time. I was the third wheel in the distance, of course, capturing some lovely photos in between.
The wedding speeches were such a great part of the day too, packed full of everything, from love, laughter, memories from the past (and a slideshow to prove it) Even a surprise video message from her sister who lives down under and who couldn't make it, damn you COVID-19!! The wedding speeches were finished up with a surprise last-minute speech from her childhood best friend and maid of honour Lauren, which ended up with the whole wedding pay standing up and singing along.
The day was coming to an end fast and it was time for the fireworks that they planned, which was an amazing display in sync with the music from optimum fireworks and yes more dancing and then the sparklers too! We then headed back inside for the cake cutting and yes - more dancing for their first dance.
So I started this blog with an email from Helen & James, and I told them I was writing them a blog about their amazing wedding day and if they would like me to add anything well just let me know, and the rest of the email was for their blog...
On August 30th 2020 I married the most amazing man. After our original wedding was cancelled on 1st May due to a certain "C-word" we had months of uncertainty as to whether it would be possible to get married at all this year, and so as soon as receptions of 30 were given the green light we agreed "let's just do it!"
Because our original plans were due to take place over a weekend in different locations, it was easier to cancel this rather than rearrange it. This gave us the freedom to start from scratch picking a venue and after a quick Google search and a recommendation from a friend, Solberge Hall agreed to host our wedding two weeks from the date of our phone call! The staff went above and beyond to pull this off and what followed was a whirlwind of excitement and intense planning as we tried to pull together the biggest event of our lives in 336 hours (we counted!)
Luckily the suppliers we chose for our day were absolutely fantastic. We were fortunate enough that all original vendors were available on the date we picked (due to so many other weddings sadly being cancelled this year). We were so happy to be able to work with these professionals as the day would not have been the same without them.
Wedding vendors are in the unusual position of being strangers to who you choose to spend the most important day of your life, and so it is vital that you feel comfortable with them. By the end of the day, all of our suppliers felt like friends. From our hair and makeup artists, Madeleine Make Up Studio and Kerry Wedding Hair, who we found through Facebook to our photographer Nick Georgiou who is a friend of a colleague and has the most stunning portfolio, we were thrilled with them all.
Nick's work is a piece of art. One of the most difficult compromises of our wedding was trimming our guest list, but it's meant so much that friends and family have said they really got a feel for the day through Nick's documentary-style photos. Nick worked so hard all day to capture every detail and also caught moments from the day that we weren't even aware had taken place.
If I was to give advice to any couples planning a wedding at the moment, it would firstly be to just go for it, instead of living in the limbo of "when will this be allowed". The act of celebrating your marriage with literally the people closest to you is one of the most intimate and unique experiences you can have.
I would also say to make sure you feel comfortable with the professionals you choose for your day as you want to feel happy and relaxed throughout.
There are so many stands out moments from our wedding day, but walking out of the church hand in hand with my husband is a moment I'll never forget. The cliché is true, it was the happiest day of my life.
Thank you to Helen & James for choosing me to be part of your day by capturing your loving memories, congratulations again, and all the best for the future.
