AI In the Wedding Photography World?
AI For Editing?
AI photo editing refers to the use of artificial intelligence algorithms and tools to enhance, modify, or manipulate digital images. There are several AI-powered photo editing software and applications available that utilize machine learning and computer vision techniques to automate and simplify the editing process.
Here are some ways AI can assist in photo editing:
- Automated Editing: AI algorithms can analyze and understand the content of an image, allowing for automated adjustments to be made. This includes features like auto-enhancement, where AI algorithms can automatically adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, and other parameters to improve the overall appearance of the photo.
- Object Removal: AI tools can help remove unwanted objects or people from an image seamlessly. By analyzing the image and understanding its elements, AI algorithms can intelligently fill in the gaps left behind by the removed object, resulting in a natural-looking final image.
- Style Transfer: AI can apply artistic styles to photos, transforming them to resemble famous artworks or adopt a specific visual style. By using deep learning techniques, AI algorithms can learn the style of one image and apply it to another, creating unique and visually stunning results.
- Image Restoration: Old and damaged photos can be restored using AI techniques. By analyzing the image, AI can automatically repair scratches, stains, and other imperfections, restoring the photo to its original quality.
- Face Editing: AI-powered photo editing tools can enhance facial features, smooth skin, remove blemishes, and even change expressions or apply makeup virtually. These tools utilize facial recognition and manipulation algorithms to achieve realistic and pleasing results.
- Photo Effects: AI can generate various creative effects to enhance photos, such as adding filters, adjusting lighting conditions, or creating unique visual effects. These effects can be applied automatically or adjusted manually, allowing users to experiment and customize their images.
It's important to note that while AI tools can significantly speed up and automate certain aspects of photo editing, they cannot replace the creative eye and judgment of a skilled photographer or professional editor. They are best used as tools to enhance and assist in the editing process, allowing photographers to achieve their desired artistic vision more efficiently.
Do I Use AI?
Well, the short answer is yes, but we all do. The most common software to use as a wedding photographer is Lightroom from Adobe and within that software, it has given us tools to select things very easily using AI and not manually doing it which saves so much time. For example, I can ask the software to select the sky so I can edit it without editing other parts of the photo.
I do not use AI to select all the good images and only edit them. Well we all do to some degree but I do not rely on it and only use it minimally but I do not rely on it! In a nutshell, you can train the AI to learn your style and then the software will edit future photos in the same way. It can also decide which it thinks are keepers and which ones aren't. This scares me as, what if it doesn't select an image I took that I love, the whole idea of the AI doing my job just doesn't sit well, I believe all couples deserve the time from their photographer to go through the photos them self and take the time and care to edit them.
Pros & Cons Of AI Editing
Pros of AI Photo Editing:
- Time-Saving: AI-powered editing tools can automate various editing tasks, saving you time and effort. They can quickly enhance images, apply filters, or make adjustments with just a few clicks, reducing the manual editing process.
- User-Friendly: AI photo editing software often comes with intuitive interfaces and user-friendly features, making it accessible to users with varying levels of editing skills. You don't need to be an expert to achieve pleasing results.
- Consistency: AI algorithms can apply consistent editing styles across multiple images. This is particularly useful when you have a series of photos from the same event or shoot, as it helps maintain a cohesive look and feel.
- Automated Enhancements: AI tools can automatically analyze and enhance various aspects of an image, such as color balance, exposure, and sharpness. They can identify areas that need improvement and apply adjustments for optimal results.
- Accessibility: AI photo editing tools are widely available and can be accessed through various platforms, including mobile apps and online software. This makes it convenient for users to edit their photos on the go or from different devices.
Cons of AI Photo Editing:
- Limited Customization: AI algorithms work based on pre-programmed rules and patterns. While they can offer automated adjustments, they may not provide the same level of control and customization as manual editing. Users seeking highly specific edits or artistic expressions may find AI tools limiting.
- Lack of Artistic Judgment: AI algorithms are not capable of understanding the creative intent behind a photograph. They may make general adjustments but may not capture the unique vision or style desired by the photographer. Human editors often have a better sense of artistic judgment and can make more nuanced decisions.
- Overreliance on Presets: AI photo editing often relies on predefined presets or styles, limiting the creative freedom to explore unique looks or experiment with different editing techniques. Some users may feel that their images lack individuality or originality when relying solely on AI editing.
- Imperfect Results: While AI algorithms have advanced significantly, they are not infallible. They may occasionally make errors or produce unrealistic edits, especially when dealing with complex or challenging images. Manual editing by a skilled human editor can often yield more accurate and precise results.
- Lack of Personal Touch: AI editing tools may lack the personalized touch and emotional connection that can come from collaborating with a human editor. Professional photo editors can understand your specific preferences, tailor their edits accordingly, and offer a more customized and personalized editing experience.
So basically, AI photo editing offers time-saving automation and accessible tools for users, but it may have limitations when it comes to customization, artistic judgment, and achieving highly personalized results. It's important to strike a balance between leveraging the convenience of AI tools and seeking the expertise of human editors for more creative and individualized editing needs.
