Photographs, Back-Up, Print, Frame and Enjoy Them!
Photographs are amazing, that's why we invest in photographers whether this is for our newborn pictures, family or our weddings. I love looking back at my photos and they bring back great memories from that time. All of these moments are worth something, and most of these moments are priceless.
In this time and age, there’s no excuse not to back up your digital photos. It’s important to do so because technology isn’t 100% safe from accidents or malfunctions.
Professional Photos, Digitally Delivered
When you work with me, your photos are delivered digitally to a secure online gallery. This makes it super quick, easy and convenient for you and others to view them no matter where you are! I love that delivering photos can be so easy for everyone! But I want to make sure you know how to take care of your photos because I know they mean a lot to you.
After I deliver your collection of photos, they remain accessible online for 6 months but I keep them on my hard drive for 2 years. So you have plenty of time to view them, order any prints or products you might want, and save them so you can have them forever.
Backup Plan
After you save your digital photos in one location, I recommend you keep copies in at least one other separate place, two would be ideal. And even better is if the locations where you keep them are in two physical locations. For example, don’t just make two folders on the same computer. You’d lose both folders if something happened to your computer. One other option is an online backup.
Cloud-Based Storage and Local or Both?
If you want to manually back up your digital files, you can copy and paste the folder they’re into another place, like on an external hard drive or USB storage. That would be called local storage, and the downside to this is that the files are stored on a physical device, which could be damaged, lost or go bad.
Another option is to use a cloud-based service like Amazon, Dropbox.com, Google Drive or iCloud. A lot of these are free and easy to use. Then your photos are safe because they’re being stored online.
Manual vs. Automatic Backups
Backblaze is a great online backup solution that does it automatically, this can back up your entire computer, and all of your photos or just your photos you can select what you would like to back up. It’s great because it’s easy to use and it’s simple to retrieve your files if you need them. I use a mixture of iCloud, Adobe and Time Machine on my macs with 3 separate portable hard drives.
Printing Your Photos
I love to print our photos, I have a couple of walls in our house that are dedicated to our memories. Printing our digital photos is important to me as we get to see them every day, how often do you look back at your photos on your phone I can imagine not that often.
You don’t need to print all of them of course as we are in a digital world you probably have thousands, but you should choose a selection of your favourites, from time to time, and get them in an album or as I do in a frame on your wall. I have 2 walls in my home where I make a feature wall and I updated the pictures as my kids are growing.
If you have professional photos, order some of them through your photographer! My online galleries all come with a store attached where you can do it there and then, with lots of great options and done so simply too. You’ll find the quality of professional prints and print products is much better and your photos will last longer. If you don’t print your photos you’re missing out on the best way to enjoy them!
Photographs are so Important
Photographs are memories that you can see, and take you back in time to that moment. They’re magical, you can show your memories to family and friends for years. That’s why it’s so important to protect your photographs and back them up so you don’t risk losing them forever.
