Sidney and Kate got married at Halton Grove near Corbridge, Northumberland, on Saturday 19th September 2026. Emerald green bridesmaids, a dog in a full tuxedo, two big families, Irish relatives included, and a dance floor that never emptied. Everything happened at Halton Grove, from getting ready to the last song, which is exactly how I like it.
I'm Nick, a documentary wedding photographer based in the North East, and Halton Grove is a venue I always look forward to. If you're planning a Halton Grove wedding, or a wedding anywhere around Corbridge, Hexham or the Tyne Valley, this one should give you a really good feel for the day.
Getting ready at Halton Grove
Kate got ready with her bridesmaids, Bronte, Erin, Hannah, Laura, Charlie and Bethany, all in matching emerald pyjamas. Selfies, prosecco, a lot of laughing and one quiet moment with her mum that I absolutely love.
The rooms at Halton Grove get lovely soft window light, which is perfect for natural, unposed getting ready photos.
Over with the lads, Sidney had the best dressed guest of the day by his side: their dog, in a full tux. Honestly, he looked sharper than most of the groomsmen. Sorry lads.
The dress and the first looks
Once Kate was in her dress, her dad saw her first, then the girls, then her little niece. Her dad's face says it all, and the bridesmaids' reaction wasn't far behind.
A Halton Grove ceremony
At 2pm her dad walked her down the aisle to Sidney. There were a few happy tears along the rows, a first kiss to a big cheer, and Kate walked back out with her arms in the air. Best exit of the year? Possibly.
The ceremony room at Halton Grove has warm lighting and plenty of space, so I can move around quietly without getting in anyone's way. That matters a lot for documentary wedding photography.
Confetti and the gang
Straight out into a wall of confetti, then into the gardens with the bridesmaids and the groomsmen, Adam, Krishan, Greg, Ollie, Henry and Alex. Emerald green and black tie in front of all that greenery is a very good look.
With all the greenery around the house, Halton Grove is one of the best venues in Northumberland for confetti and group photos. Lots of colour, lots of space, and nobody squinting into a car park.
Couple portraits around Halton Grove
Then it was just the two of them, plus one very good boy. We wandered the gardens and finished in front of the ivy covered house. Their dog nailed every single pose, which is more than I can say for most groomsmen.
If you're booking a Halton Grove wedding photographer, ask about timing your couple portraits for later in the day. The evening light through the trees is gorgeous, and it only takes a few minutes.
Speeches and the wedding breakfast
The speeches had the whole room going. Parents in stitches, Sidney and Kate laughing along, and the top table on their feet by the end.
Speeches are where documentary wedding photography really earns its keep. No posing, just watching the room and catching the reactions, which is where most of my favourite photos from any Northumberland wedding come from.
Cake, first dance and a proper party
They cut the cake next to a champagne tower, had their first dance under the fairy lights, and then the party really got going. Champagne in the air, Kate dancing with everyone, and some of the best dance floor faces I've ever seen.
The evening setup at Halton Grove, with the fairy lights and a proper dance floor, makes for brilliant party photos. If you love a dance, you'll love what this place looks like after dark.

- Fairy lights and a proper dance floor for the evening
