Katie and Jamie got married at Doxford Barns in Chathill, Northumberland, on Monday 21st September 2026. Proper autumn sunshine, old stone barns, a fairy lit staircase and a courtyard full of people who love them. Oh, and their little girl Gracie, who stole pretty much every scene she walked into. Sorry guys, she's the star of this blog too.
Everything happened on site, which is one of the things I love about Doxford Barns. No cars, no rushing between places, just one gorgeous spot near Alnwick and the Northumberland coast where the whole day can unfold at its own pace. Perfect for the way I like to work: relaxed, real and documentary.

Getting ready at Doxford Barns
Katie got ready with her girls in the bridal suite at Doxford Barns. Vicky Hedley was on make up, Jade Thomasson was on hair, and Gracie was on sunglasses duty. She took that job very seriously.
Getting ready on site at Doxford Barns means nobody is watching the clock, and that's exactly when the best natural moments happen.
Over with the lads, Jamie, best man Matthew, his brother David, David and Jonny were looking sharp in matching stone coloured suits.
The dress, the veil and the first looks
Katie's dress by Eva Lendel was absolutely stunning. Her mam Gwen helped with the veil, and then came the first looks. Gracie ran in first, then her dad Stephen, then the bridesmaids.
Becky (maid of honour), Meg, Sofia, Charlotte, Hannah and Lauren lost it in the best way, and Stephen's reaction is one of my favourite moments of the whole year. Just look at him.
A barn ceremony down the fairy lit staircase
At 2pm Katie made her entrance down that famous staircase in the ceremony barn, all stone walls, candles and fairy lights, before Stephen walked her down the aisle to Jamie.
Ross the celebrant kept it warm and personal. There were tears from the bridesmaids, laughs from the front, and Gracie went for a little wander down the aisle mid ceremony. Absolute scene stealer.
The ceremony barn at Doxford Barns is a cracking space for documentary wedding photography. Old stone, warm lighting and plenty of room for me to move around quietly without getting in anyone's way.
Confetti and courtyard drinks
Straight out into the sunshine for confetti, with Jamie carrying Gracie through the middle of it. Then it was hugs, cold drinks and catching up with friends and family in the Doxford Barns courtyard.
This is the bit I love: no posing, just people being happy together.
The courtyard at Doxford Barns is made for confetti and drinks reception photos. Loads of space, old stone walls and a backdrop that does half the work for me.
Katie and her girls
Sunglasses on, bouquets out, chaos encouraged. Chloe Foley Wolfe's autumn flowers looked amazing against the brown bridesmaid dresses.
Group photos at Doxford Barns are easy, because there's character everywhere you look: stone walls, barn doors and the Northumberland countryside all around.
Couple portraits around Doxford Barns
Katie wanted the photos of the two of them kept relaxed, so we played it by ear and had a wander. The sign wall, the old doorways, the red ivy wall and the gravel courtyard all made it easy.
And yes, that is a ride on mower. When a venue leaves one out, it would be rude not to.
If you're booking a Doxford Barns wedding photographer, ask about sneaking out for ten minutes in the evening. With hundreds of acres of fields and a lake on the estate, the golden hour options are brilliant.
Why Doxford Barns works so well for wedding photos
Doxford Barns is a collection of converted 18th century stone barns in Chathill, near Alnwick, set in around 500 acres of Northumberland countryside. For a documentary wedding photographer it gives you everything in one place:
- Moody, candlelit stone for the ceremony, with the staircase entrance as the showstopper
- A sunny courtyard for confetti and drinks that keeps everybody together
- Stone walls, rustic doors and that red ivy wall in autumn for couple portraits
- A bridal suite with lovely natural light for getting ready
It's also a great shout for a Monday wedding. Katie and Jamie had the whole place to themselves and a relaxed pace from start to finish.
